Obituary

Edith Parker Hadnott Wooten, 91, passed gently from this earth to her eternal rest on Friday, April 1, 2011 at the home of her daughter, Debbie Wooten, in Cary with family by her side.

She was one of 11 children born August 10, 1919 in Onslow County to William "Billy" Parker and Mollie Jane Brown Parker. Edith graduated from Dixon High School. She married Hilton Hadnot and after three years of marriage Hilton was killed in the invasion of Normandy during WWII. Later Edith married James Bryan Wooten and they lived happily together for 61 years until his passing in 2007.

Edith is survived by her devoted family who so lovingly cared for Edith as she grew older and her health failed; her daughters, Suzanne Wooten Beverage of Maple Hill and Deborah "Debbie" Faye Wooten of Cary; son, James F. "Jimmie" Wooten (Cheryl) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jason Todd Wooten (Mandy) of Wilmington and Melissa Wooten McGahey (Mike) of Apex; great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Todd, Kathryn and Bailey; sisters, Hassie Lee Hutchison and Opal Daugherty both of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews. Also remembered are Edith's constant canine companions, Toby and Mollie, who brought her much comfort and joy.

Edith's family is grateful to caregiver and friend, Cindy Kerley, who diligently cared for Edith day and night until the very end.

Edith, a true southern lady, was a joy to know and a treasure to her family. She was an immaculate homemaker, good cook and most of all an excellent mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. For many years Edith attended Maple Hill Presbyterian Church. Edith's sweet spirit, witty personality and love for her Lord, her family, and her community will not be forgotten. She was loved and will be greatly missed

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw. Following the visitation the funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with C.L.P. Richard Wurtzel officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
