Edna Walker Cowan, age 76, of Burgaw died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 in New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born September 11, 1931, the daughter of the late Luther Talmage Walker and Margie Walker Moore. Edna was also preceded in death by her husband, John Tate Cowan, Jr.

Mrs. Cowan was a member of Friendly Community Baptist Church.

Edna had many interest, but her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a woman of faith, a devout Christian who lived what she believed, which was demonstrated by her love and concern for those that she touched.

Edna was a kind and gentle lady that loved life and those who were fortunate to have known her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Surviving are her two sons, John Tate Cowan III and wife, Barbara, of Wilmington and Daniel Brent Cowan of Surf City; two daughters, Mrs. Dean Wilson and husband, Steve and Mrs. Jean Earp and husband, Talton both of Clayton; grandchildren, John Cowan IV, David Cowan, Jessica Wilson, Tabitha Earp and James Smith and wife, Jodi; and great grandchildren, Robin Cowan and Alicia Smith.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Phillip Jones officiating.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
