Obituary

Edna Waddell McNeill, age 90, of Burgaw, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend passed gently from this earth to her eternal rest on Thursday evening, February 11, 2010.

She was born March 2, 1919 in Wayne County, the daughter of the late James Bennett and Hattie Lewis Waddell. She was also preceded in death by her husband William "Mac" Brown McNeill in 1999.

Edna is survived by her devoted family; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and William "Bill" Wooddell of Burgaw; grandchildren, Holt Wooddell (Katie) of Leland and Kirstin Wooddell Mathews (Jason) of Burgaw; nieces, Shirley McNeill, Sally Richter (Max), Patsy Wheat, and Virginia Hatchett; nephew, James McNeill (Pat); and special friends, Sue Brown and Jean Carraway (John).

In Edna's younger years she assisted her parents with Pender Telephone Company. She then went to work at Pender Memorial Hospital where she retired after many years of service. For over 60 years Edna was a member of the W. Dudley Robbins American Legion Post 165 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a faithful member of Burgaw Presbyterian Church. Edna's beautiful smile, strong spirit and steadfast faith in God will always be remembered.

The family wishes to express its love and appreciation to devoted caregivers, Kay Watkins and Cathy Williams, to their Huntington Health care family, to Dr. Michael Rallis and Lynette Pearsall, P.A., and to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February15, 2010 at Burgaw Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Dr. Ray Mendenhall officiating.

Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Robert Hugh Corbett, Jason Mathews, Harold Pollock, Holt Wooddell, Julian Wooten and Nick Vdovich.

The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at Burgaw Presbyterian Church parlor. At other times the family will be at the home of Bill and Cheryl Wooddell.
