Edward Vance Hubbard, Sr., 59, of Watha passed from his earthly life to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born February 26, 1954 in Pender County, the son of the late Ronald Eldridge Hubbard, Sr. and Lillian Hope Rivenbark Hubbard. Also remembered are his brother, Ronald E. Hubbard, Jr. and infant sister, Rona Frances Hubbard, both who preceded Edward in death.

Edward is survived by his son, Edward V. "E.J." Hubbard, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Kristina Harmer Hubbard; grandchildren, Gavin Tyler Hubbard and Ashlyn Hope Hubbard; former spouse and friend, Phyllis Moore Hubbard; sister, Sharon H. Neely (David); brothers, John Thomas Hubbard and George M. Hubbard (Kathy); and two nephews.

For many years, Edward was employed as a correctional officer with the NC Department of Corrections.

Edward was a caring daddy, Papa, brother and friend who loved his family dearly. He had a giving heart; always helping others, seeing the need before being asked and sharing his worldly goods. Being an avid outdoorsman, Edward enjoyed fishing, hunting and just being outside in all of God's beautiful nature. He will be remembered as a humble, giving and selfless man who will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

The family will receive friends at the home of Sharon and David Neely, 215 Basden Road, Burgaw.
