Edward
Mote
Sep 17, 1921 — Dec 12, 2014
Edward Mote, 93, of Willard passed peacefully from his earthly life on Friday, December 12, 2014 at his son's home. He was born September 17, 1921 in Bladen County, the youngest of seven children of Thomas and Katie Smith Mote. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Mathews Mote; sisters, Nettie Merritt and Lydie Bordeaux; brothers, Hester, Henry, Sandlin and Alexander Mote.
Edward is survived by his sons, Dennis Mote and Ellis Glenn Mote; grandchildren, Jonathan Edward Mote and Stephen Edward Mote; a special niece, Sharon Tatum and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Edward's parents died when he was a young boy and thus he grew up, became self sufficient, and learned the value of hard work long before he was a teenager. Being a farmer by career, he was known as the best tobacco farmer in eastern North Carolina. Most important was his family; he was a wonderful husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. He always had time for the neighborhood children, teaching them how to drive a tractor and farm. He enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting in God's beautiful woods. He lived a full and enriched life, leaving a legacy of love, faith and giving to others.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with service at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Charlie Tatum will officiate. Entombment will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Timmy Blanton, Stevie Giddeons, Bobby Carter, Mark Pigford, Jay Farrior and Henry Lee Washington.
