Edward Franklin Thomason, Jr., 70, of Rocky Point passed from his earthly life on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 23, 1942 in Wilmington and was the son of the late Edward Franklin Thomason, Sr. and Annie Spooner Thomason. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Mobley Thomason and sister, Mary Rackley.

Edward is survived by his sons, Daniel Thomason (Cynthia) of Leland and Edward F. "Frankie" Thomason III (Leigh) of Hampstead; grandchildren, Blake Thomason, Amanda Thomason, Ashley Thomason, James Long and Jessica Long; one great granddaughter, Jazmine; sisters, Beulah Branch Yarbrough of Wilmington and Joyce Malpass of Leland; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Edward was a member of Castle Hayne Baptist Church. After church he enjoyed going with his sister to nursing homes and singing for the residents.

Edward was a man with a joyful spirit who loved joking, laughter and most of all singing as he had an excellent voice. His witty personality would light up every place he went and lift everyone's spirits. He loved his family and was a joy to his neighbors. His faith in the Lord was steadfast. Cherished memories of Edward will for ever remain in our hearts.

Edward's last gift to mankind was the gift of sight to another person by donating his corneas.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at Castle Hayne Baptist Church with Pastor Billy Fowler officiating.

Flowers are welcomed or a memorial gift may be given to the charity of one's choice.
