Edwin Lee
Morton
Jan 31, 1932 — Jul 1, 2014
On July 1, 2014, at the end of an extended illness, Mr. Edwin Lee Morton departed this life and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Ed was born in Onslow County on January 31, 1932, the son of the late Jacob and Mattie Kellum Morton.
Ed was saved and later accepted the call to preach at Kellum Baptist Church. He moved his family to Wilmington in the early 70's. He was a lay preacher for several churches throughout SE North Carolina. He also worked as a commercial appliance repairman with Modern Laundry for more than twenty years. Ed had been a member of Northside Baptist Church (Murray Memorial) since 1973. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and Pa, but his true passion was to talk to others about Jesus.
Ed was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 63 years, Lula Morton; two daughters, Mattie Lynn of Bradenton, Florida and Joyce Strickland of Wilmington; one son, Glenn Morton (Lorri), also of Wilmington; one surviving sister, Isabell Morton of Raleigh NC and one brother, Lewis Morton (Elizabeth) of Jacksonville NC; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and precious friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Nona Morton, and six brothers, Humphrey, June, Levin, Ulysses, Victor and Wilson Morton.
The memorial service for Mr. Morton will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Northside Baptist Church with Pastors Rob Strickland and Kenny Chinn officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service and at other times in the home. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery immediately following the service.
Active pallbearers will be Eric Vanderhaar, Charles Mercer, Jamie Godsey, Al Corbett, Davis Carr and Ron Barnhill. Honorary pallbearers will be Northside's Senior Adult Men's Sunday School Class.
We would like to say thank you to Home Hospice and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter, and to all who have contributed to Ed's care especially during this past year.
