Obituary

Edwin Thomas Pierce, age 68, of Burgaw passed from his earthly life to his eternal rest on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 1, 1943 in Wilmington, the son of the late Robert James and Lillian Futch Pierce.

Edwin is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth McGinniss Pierce; step-son, Jeff Everhart and his wife, Kimberly of Pasadena, Maryland; two grandchildren, Matthew Zinkgraf and Makayla Everhart; brother, Dr. Robert "Bobby" Pierce, Jr. and his wife, Judy of Hickory; and five nephews, Rob Pierce, Jeff Pierce, Scot Pierce and wife, Chrisie, Kent Pierce, and Bryant Pierce.

Edwin grew up and attended school in Rocky Point. He joined the US Air Force, serving his country honorably during the Vietnam Era. For many years he lived in Maryland and worked for the Department of Defense. After his retirement 1997 he returned to Pender County, living on his beloved Shelter Creek.

Edwin loved and cared for his family. Having inherited musical talent from his mother, Edwin, in his younger years was gifted in playing the accordion and often accompanied his mother on the piano. There was nothing that Edwin enjoyed more in life than fishing and golf. He had the greatest sense of humor, loved laughter and telling jokes. Always remembered will be Edwin's quiet faith, his gentle smile, love of nature and most important, his family.
