Elaine Alice Golden, age 73, of Burgaw died Monday, March 12, 2012 at Pender Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 8, 1938 in Chemung County, New York and was the daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor Wright Underwood.

For many years Elaine worked in the Elmira County School system, working in the Transportation Department and teaching bus safety classes to school children. After her retirement from Elmira School system Elaine moved to North Carolina and managed Nelson's Motel at Kure Beach for a short time. She enjoyed time spent at the beach.

Elaine had attended Calvary Chapel Church. Her bright smile and joyful spirit will forever be remembered.

Surviving are her sons, John T. Cleveland of Burgaw, James "Jamie Cleveland and wife, Cheryl, and Joseph Cleveland both of Elmira, NY and daughter, Amy Cleveland of Elmira, NY; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren and sister, Mary Lou Parker of Gaines, PA.

Burial of cremated remains will be in Elmira, NY at a later date.
