Obituary

Elda Anita Cheney Hearn, 90, of Hampstead, NC and formerly of Charlotte, MI died peacefully Sunday, February 06, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

Written by Elda, I was born March 2, 1920 in the Fowlerville Michigan area on a large family farm, the daughter of LaVern Eugene and Eliza Quackenbush. It was in a very depressed time, but although our lovely large farmhouse burned to the ground in 1930, we rebuilt a very modest home and were completely happy, with wonderful parents who had ingenuity and courage, providing all our needs and a world of love and understanding. I attended a one room country school, then Fowlerville High School, graduating in 1937, at the age of 16. The very next day, I took a job in Royal Oak, MI to begin a long life of adulthood in which I owned several businesses through the years, including a restaurant and laundromat in Luna Pier, MI; a mobile doughnut shop; the store at Bay City State Park; the store, restaurant and boat livery at Waterloo Recreation Area, near Jackson, MI. I also transported and assisted with adults and children with various degrees of handicaps for 22 years. Lastly, until I moved to NC, I was partner with my grandson serving a large transportation contract with the US Postal Service hauling mail in the Lansing area and now in Traverse City. My greatest joy is my blessings received from the wonderful people in Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church.

Elda is survived by her children, Duane Hearn (Karla) of LaSalle, MI, Sharon Tyler (Max) of San Antonio, TX, Elaine Hulliberger of Georgetown, KY, Nickey Hearn (Elena) of Charlotte, MI and Danny Hearn (Julie) of Muskegon, MI; nine grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; brother, LaVern G. Cheney of Monroe, MI; and sisters, LaVorna Lake of Hampstead NC, Corey Morlock of Fremont, CA, Helen Garner and Eliza Navarre both of LaSalle, MI. Elda was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Wilbur Daniel Hearn; brother, Rainie Cheney and sister, Dorotha Rubel.

The family will receive friends at 5:30 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2011 at Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church followed by a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Edward Dowd and the Rev. Steve Spearing officiating.

A memorial service will be held in LaSalle, MI at a later date with inurnment at Roselawn Memorial Park.
