Eleanor Mae Parrish Yarborough, 86, of Wilmington, joined her Lord, Jesus Christ, in her heavenly home on Friday, August 25, 2023, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.

She was born on May 3, 1937, in Lee County, NC, to the late Thomas Preston Parrish and Mollie Stone Parrish.

Eleanor was a devoted daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She led an amazing life with many different jobs. She started in sewing factories, then opened her own hair salon. She helped run her husband's business, Yarborough Tree Service, and later worked at Walmart. Outside of work, she loved cooking, sewing, and gardening. Her skills and hobbies showed how talented and caring she was. Eleanor's life story teaches us about hard work, trying new things, and enjoying life's simple pleasures. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Eleanor is survived by her son, Scott Yarborough and wife, Amy; sister, Linda Parrish Cox; grandchildren, Jacob Scott Yarborough, Luke Allen Yarborough, Caleb Yarborough, Crystal Freeman and husband, Ashley, Lee Yarborough, Angie Van Valkenburg and husband, Joe, Andrea Friede and husband, Chris; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Eleanor was also preceded in death by her husband, Austin Algin Yarborough; daughter, Melissa Pauline Yarborough; son, Austin Dale Yarborough; sisters, Mildred Parrish, Brenda Maddox; brothers, William "Buddy" Parrish and Preston Parrish, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 11 am with Pastor Jim Newkirk officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.
