Elizabeth "Lib" Wells Johnson, age 100, passed peacefully from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. For the past three years Lib had made her home at DaySpring of Burgaw where she was lovingly cared for.

She was born November 15, 1909 in Duplin County, the daughter of Tince Marshall Wells and Mary Sykes Wells. Also remembered are her husband, George Johnson; sister, Doretha Barnhill and brothers, James Wells and Paul Fulton Wells.

Surviving are her daughter, Rita Johnson of Edenton; brother, Marshall Wells of Burgaw; sister-in-law, Anna Wells; nieces, Mary Ivy Woodward and her husband, Wayne and Ellen Smith and her husband, Reed; nephew, Marvin Barnhill, Jr.; and many great nieces and great nephews.

Lib was truly a joy to know and was dearly loved. Her joyful smile, gentle spirit and warm heart endeared her to family, friends and her caregivers.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Mike Lewis officiating.

Mrs. Johnson's body will lie in state from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
