Ellen Shaw Tucker
Farrior
July 30, 2011
Ellen Tucker Farrior
Mrs. Ellen Tucker Farrior, age 73, cherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, passed peacefully from this earth at New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in her eternal Heavenly home on Saturday, July 30, 2011. Ellen was born June 14, 1938 at home in Magnolia, NC. Ellen Shaw, as she was affectionately known by her family and close friends of whom there were many, was the daughter of James Preston Tucker, Jr. and Asline Norwood Chestnutt.
Ellen leaves to cherish her memory forever her devoted husband of 51 years, Dr. Stanley McNair Farrior of the home in Burgaw; daughter, Mary Ellen Farrior of Taylors, SC; son, Stanley McNair Farrior, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Cary, NC and son, David Tucker Farrior and wife, Kristy and grandchildren: Daryn Blake Casteen and Lela Katherine Farrior of Burgaw. Ellen has a brother, James Preston Tucker III and wife, Jo Anne who live in their home in Cary, NC and they have three children; Anthony Brian Tucker, James Preston Tucker, III and Jennifer Leah Tyndell.
Having grown up as a Baptist, Ellen joined the Burgaw Presbyterian Church and later the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Burgaw along with her husband, Stan and daughter, Mary Ellen after the family moved to Burgaw from Chapel Hill, NC. Ellen loved the Lord and served in many ways especially playing the organ and piano in church which was a total joy to her and was active in Sunday school, Children's Bible School, Teaching Bible Courses, Women of the Church activities and especially enjoyed the Bethel Bible Studies and participated eight years in Bible Study Fellowship International in Wilmington NC. She and her son, David, played for many weddings and funerals over the years which they both were happy to serve in this way. Playing and singing Christian music was never far from her heart.
Ellen moved in 1940 with her family to Wilmington, NC where her father worked with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad until retiring in 1975. She later graduated from New Hanover High School in 1956 and then graduated in June, 1960 from Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro with a BA Degree in Elementary Education. She taught fourth grade for two years at Elon College Elementary School. Next she taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades for five years at Glenwood Elementary School in Chapel Hill, NC while her husband, Stan, was attending Dental School at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Ellen's life was indeed a blessing to so many. Ellen greatly cared for others with no malice toward anyone. She let her light shine and never asked for much in return. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend anyone could ask for. Being a gifted organist and pianist, she shared her love of music abundantly with others. Ellen was a true southern lady; soft spoken, gentle in manner, caring for her family and friends and above all faithful in her Christian beliefs. Memories of Ellen shine bright for those who knew and loved her. She will surely be missed wherever her paths in life had taken her. She is now without pain, suffering and worry and is in the presence of her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and among the other angels dancing in the clouds.
Well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into your rest and joy. Matthew 25:21.
