Obituary


Elmon "E. J." Hollis, Jr., age 66, of Hampstead died Monday, June 23, 2008 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 28, 1941 in Onslow County, the son of the late James Elmon and Hettie Lanier Hollis. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elva Lou Groves and great niece, Emily Grace Hollis.

E. J. served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam Era in Germany and was retired from Corning, Inc. Serving as a deacon and usher, he was a faithful longtime member of Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church.

He loved his family dearly and was known for his friendly smile, his generous hugs and his love of children of all ages. Hunting and fishing in God's beautiful world were always enjoyed by E. J. He was a man of great faith, honor, love and integrity who gave so generously of his time and talents to others.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 43 years, Rachel Kye Hollis; daughter, Kimberly Hollis of Hampstead; son, Kevin Hollis of Hampstead; sister, Marie Padgett and her husband, Wesley, and Vernice Dyhre all of Haws Run; brothers, Durwood Hollis and his wife, Cheryl, and Eddie Earl Hollis and his wife, Linda, all of Hampstead; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008 at Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church with Pastor Edward Dowd officiating.

Burial will follow in the church Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Jamie Hollis, Eddie Hollis, Eric Groves, Scott Bradshaw, Bernard Howell and Richie Millis.

Honorary bearers will be Elders, Deacons and Ushers of Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.

Memorial gifts may be given to Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church, 88 Blakes Chapel Rd., Hampstead, NC 28443.
