Obituary

Eloise Mathews Whaley, 89, of Wallace has fought the good fight, has kept the faith and on Friday, December 4, 2015 finished her race and reached her goal. She is now celebrating in Heaven where she will forever be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mrs. Eloise was born November 30, 1926 in Sampson County and was the daughter of the late William Edward and Lillie Smith Mathews. She was also predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Johnny Whaley and siblings, Clara Davis, Virginia Mote, William Mathews, Henry Matthews and Johnny Mathews.

She was a dedicated life long member of Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church where she served faithfully in the Bereaved Meal Ministry.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her loving and devoted children, Susan W. Henderson and husband Chris of Wallace and Billy Whaley and wife Loria of Clinton; grandchildren, Nicholas "Nick" Whaley and wife Amanda, Anthony Whaley and wife Heather, Alissa Whaley and husband Tim, Nathan Whaley, Emily Whaley, Lindsay Henderson Marshall and husband Anthony and William "Will" Henderson; 5 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Genell Whaley, Dorothy Rouse and Mildred Matthews and numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved Eloise dearly.

Eloise was a loving mother and caring grandmother, sister and friend. She found great joy in the simplest of things, but her greatest joy was serving the Lord and her family. She was a diligent homemaker and great cook and with a joyful spirit she filled her home with love and welcomed all who entered. She was a good neighbor and friend and was loved by all who knew her. She was considered the "non-paid community watch" person in her neighborhood. A woman of great integrity, Eloise lived her life humbly before God and her fellowman. She loved the Lord, her family and her church family. She cherished every minute she had the opportunity to go to church. She especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren who were the "˜apples of her eye'. Eloise will surely be missed, but treasured memories of her will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of her "Home-Going" will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church with her pastor, Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Watha.
