Early Friday morning, Elsie M. Cates quietly slipped home to heaven. We are so thankful she was ready and knew Jesus was waiting for her.
Elsie was born on March 14, 1921, and entered heaven on July 3, 2026, at the age of 105.
Elsie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Austin E. Cates; her son, Melvin E. Cates "Gene"; and later, her sweetheart, Milton C. Moser. Elsie and Milt shared a beautiful romance that lasted 29 years until his passing in 2016, a testament to the love and companionship they found later in life.
In her early years, Elsie worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse, providing compassionate home care to those in need. She found great joy in being a homemaker, faithfully caring for her family and creating a home filled with love. Later in life, she and Milt especially enjoyed traveling together, making treasured memories wherever they went.
Elsie leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory, including her grandchildren: Wendy Langston (Danny), Tina Kling (Eric), Michael Moser (Daniella), Lisa Willis (Joey), and Joel Spivey (Melissa). She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. One great-grandson, Michael Spivey, shared an especially close bond with her, faithfully spending time with her each week, bringing her joy, companionship, and love throughout the years.
Elsie was known as the "cat lady" the more the merrier. Rusty, Spider, & Scooter held a very special place in her heart.
Elsie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her caring heart, her devotion to her family, and her unwavering faith. Her life was a beautiful example of love, kindness, and quiet strength. While her family grieves her absence, they rejoice in knowing she is now in the presence of her Savior and reunited with those who have gone before her.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Atkinson Cemetery
