Elsie Swanson Moore Simpson, 88, of Ivanhoe passed from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Golden Care Rest Home.

She was born December 2, 1928 in Pender County and was the daughter of the late Jessie Edward and Lila Grace Eakins Moore. She is preceded in death by her son, Kevin Matthew Simpson and sisters, Lila Walker and Nina Formyduval.

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Valerie Moore Simpson; sons, Henry Fred Simpson III and wife, Dale, Michael Jesse Simpson and wife, Cindy, and Daniel Keith Simpson; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Simpson; grandchildren, Little Freddy Simpson, Eric Simpson, Amanda Simpson, Jesse Simpson, Ethan Simpson, Matthew Simpson, Marcus Simpson and Michael Simpson; seven great grandchildren; sister, Ellen Navaroli; brother, Edward Moore and his wife, Edna; many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Elsie was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Woman's College in Greensboro (now University of NC at Greensboro).

Elsie was a lady of strength, courage and good character who dearly loved and cared for her five children. She along with the excellent help of her children operated a farm growing tobacco, row crops and a big vegetable garden. In addition to all her mother duties she found time for church work, working at the US Postal Service, being an active member of the Pender County Homemakers, and taking ceramic classes from Mrs. Skinner. Most important in Elsie's industrious life was her Lord, her family, her church family and her many friends. Elsie's sweet sweet spirit, gentle laughter, and beautiful smile will always be remembered.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Shiloh Baptist Church with service at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The service will be conducted by The Rev. Bobby Mowery and The Rev. Gardner Eakins. Burial will follow in Eakins Cemetery with her grandsons serving as casketbearers. At other times family will be at the home of Freddy and Dale Simpson.
