Elvin Valson Garriss, age 85, of Wallace left this earthly life for his eternal home in Heaven on Monday, November 12, 2012 from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born August 27, 1927 in Pender County and was the son of the late Si Valson and Lola Ward Garriss. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Hubert Garriss and O.B. Garriss.

Mr. Garriss proudly served his country honorably in the US Navy.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his wife of 39 years, Luba Korba Garriss; sisters, Mary Lou Batts of Watha, Daisy Turner of Wallace, Juanita Hollowell of Goldsboro and Evon Connell of Jacksonville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Watha United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Elbert Hollowell officiating.

Elvin was a devoted husband. He enjoyed deer hunting and was proud to have been one of few people who took 2 deer with one bullet. Being a hard worker and a patient man, Elvin was very self-disciplined. He lived his life by God's Word. Elvin will be fondly remembered and dearly missed, but his family and friends are grateful to know that they will see him again one day.
