Emiley H. Matthey Bender, age 104, of Pinehurst and formerally of Wallace, NC left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from Manor Care Health Services in Pinehurst.

Born on June 5, 1912 in Wayne County, North Carolina, Mrs. Bender was the daughter of the late Reinhold and Augusta Bergmer Matthey. She was also predeceased by her husband, Earl Vincent Bender and her son, Robert "Bobby" Riley.

Mrs. Bender described herself in earlier years as "an 82 year old person who had learned wisdom" during her years of life. She, at the age of 82, wrote an article called, "Merry Makers! It is Later Than You Think". This article was sent to President Bill Clinton and she received a kind response back from him. Later it was printed in the Wallace Enterprise. In 1996, she wrote a prayer that was also printed in the Wallace Enterprise called "A Prayer for Our Troops on Land, Air and Sea". Mrs. Bender loved America and was devoted to our troops who fought for freedom during her lifetime. She saw and experienced many changes during her long life; electricity, the automobile, telephones, televisons, radios and numeorus others. Mrs Bender was a lady of integrity, wisdom and was devoted to her family and her country. She will be missed.

Mrs. Bender was buried in Riverview Memorial Park in Watha, NC.
