Obituary

Emma Kay Humbles, 56, of Castle Hayne died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at her home.

She was born January 9, 1955 in Wilmington, the daughter of Betty Humbles Brown and the late Edward Eugene Humbles, Sr. Kay was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Leon and Emma Rooks and Ray and Esther Humbles.

Kay is survived by her mother and step-father, Betty Humbles Brown and Thomas P. Brown, Sr. of Castle Hayne; brother, Gene Humbles (Patsy) of Castle Hayne; sisters, Betsy Humbles (Jerry) of Castle Hayne and Judy Dixon (E. B.) of Wilmington; nieces, Amy Bard (Dennis), Lisa Wurtzbacher (Lee), Jessica Buchanan (Brandon) and Jenny Walters; nephews, Bryce Dixon (Jennifer) and David Bryan (Jennifer); great nieces and nephews, Jamie, Adriana, Trey, Madison, Mackenna, Ebbo and D. J.; special aunts, Anne Rooks and Mary DeBose; and a large circle of cousins, extended family and friends.

Kay was a member of McClure Memorial Presbyterian Church and maintained a quiet Christian faith all of her life.

Kay was a joy to know and loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, Kay put others before herself. She was a very active lady who enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, and animals, especially her dogs. Her bright smile, her joyous laughter and generous heart will forever be remembered. Kay's family is grateful to God for her life and for your every concern, kindness and prayers. May our Lord give us peace and walk with us, Kay's family and friends, in the days and weeks to come.

Funeral service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Bradley Creek Chapel, 315 Willow Woods Drive in Wilmington with Denise Jones, C.L.P. officiating. Burial will follow in Watha United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday until time of the service. At other times will be at the home of Thomas and Betty Humbles Brown in Castle Hayne.

Casketbearers will be David Bryan, Dennis Bard, Bryce Dixon, Lee Wurtzbacher, Brandon Buchanan, Brian Evans, Zack Grizzle and D. J. Bryan.
