Obituary

Emma Estelle Johnson, age 84, of Wallace left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Thursday, August 13, 2020 from Vidant Duplin Hospital.

She was born on February 17, 1936 in Sampson County; the daughter of the late Ocy Bradley and Alice Longsworth Sessoms Johnson.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Ira Rudolph Johnson; her son, Ira R. "Buddy" Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Parker, Lilma Faucette; brother, Elwood Johnson; her twin brother, Leslie Johnson and son-in-law, Jimmy James.

Mrs. Johnson was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 9161 and a member of First Baptist Church of Wallace. She was employed with Wallace Drugs for 37 years where she acquired many friends over the years.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Diane James of Wallace; grandchildren, Jimmy Aaron James and wife, Joy and Ira Paul Johnson, Donna Alberti and husband, Tom, Cindy Reed and husband, Randy, Jaime Moran and Keli Wilson and husband, Chad; great grandchildren, Baylor James, Matthew Johnson, Krista, Chelsea, Cassidy, Cailey, Lexi, Gage, Brody, Brayden, Eli and Lane and numerous nieces, nephew, family and friends that loved Estelle dearly.

Estelle, as most everyone affectionately called her, was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She was a diligent homemaker and great cook. Estelle enjoyed reading but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family whom she loved with all her heart.  Being a good neighbor and friend, Estelle was loved by all who knew her.  She will surely be missed but Estelle's family is grateful to God for her life and they consider themselves to be very blessed to have had such a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.

Graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, August 17, 2020 at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery with the Reverend David Knowles officiating.

Mrs. Johnson will be available for viewing between the hours of 2:00pm and 5:00pm on Sunday, August 16 and from 9:00 to 12:00 on Monday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Johnson requested that memorial gifts be given in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Wallace, 408 W. Main Street, Wallace, NC  28466 or to the charity of your choice.
