Etta Mae Casteen Lanier, 85, of Burgaw passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Thursday evening with family by her bedside at Huntington Health Care of Burgaw.
She was born November 5, 1926 in Duplin County, the daughter of the late Joshua Wright and Eva Letchworth Casteen. Also lovingly remembered are her husband of 54 years, Elbridge Thomas Lanier; sons, Elbridge "Rat" Thomas Lanier, Jr. and Adrian "Buster" Fountain, Jr.; brother, James U. Casteen; and sister, Inez Hill all who preceded Etta in death.
Etta Mae is survived by her son, Gene Lanier (Georgia) of Burgaw; daughters, Ellen Sholar (Donnie) of Wallace and Peggy Bradshaw (Tommy) of Rose Hill; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Richardson of Wilmington and Martha Boyette (Earl) of Burgaw; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Etta Mae was a faithful member of Burgaw Holiness Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church where she had served as president of the Women's Auxiliary, taught Sunday school for many years, and was a youth leader and Bible school teacher.
Etta Mae was a devoted wife and loving mama, mother-in-law, granny, great granny, sister and friend. Her strong faith in the Lord shown brightly in her words and deeds all of her life and set an example for others. Etta Mae filled her home with love, grace, joy, humility and best of all good cooking! She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. So, we her family and friends, say not goodbye but only till later when we meet again in God's Heavenly Kingdom where we know Etta Mae is in paradise, smiling in eternal peace.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Ted Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be Korey Rackley, Bradley Bradshaw, Paul Lanier, Braxton Lanier, Andrew Rivenbark, Michael Hughes and Ronnie Page.
The family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Gene and Georgia Lanier.
