Eugene Clinton Malpass, age 87, of Currie passed gently from his earthly life Friday, April 21, 2023 at his home.

He was born June 5, 1935 in Pender County, one of four children born to Rudolph Clinton Malpass and Dixie Howard Malpass.

Eugene is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Carrie B. Malpass; daughter, Connie M. Melvin (Mike); son, Stephen "Steve" E. Malpass (Ann Marie); grandchildren, Jillian Melvin-Scully (Brian) and Portia Bishop Pridgen (Nick); great granddaughter, Jocelyn Pridgen; many extended family members and friends.

Eugene served his country in the US Army. He worked at Babcock and Wilcox until they closed, then worked for and retired from Burton Steel.

Eugene was a first class family man who loved and cared for not only his family, but his neighbors and friends. When Eugene and Carrie's children were small the family took many road trips, camping along the way. One trip as far as Canada. Eugene was a jack of all trades and was always willing to lend a helping hand night or day.  As long as he was able Eugene always planted a big garden and shared the fruits of his labor. Eugene was a big man of men both in statue and Heart. He was loved and will be missed.

A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2023 at Malpass Cemetery on Richard Switch Road, Currie. Pastor Dale Blake will conduct the service.
