Evelyn Bradshaw Bowen, 89, formerly of Burgaw, NC and most recently of Davis Health Care, Wilmington, NC passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2009.
She was born in Pender County on November 29, 1919, the daughter of the late James F. and Mattie A. Bradshaw. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Marion W. Bowen; two sisters, Alberta McCullen and Edna Rae Powell; and one brother, James F. Bradshaw, Jr.
Evelyn was a member of Burgaw Baptist Church for over 50 years and a member of the Estelle Taylor Sunday School Class.
Evelyn always enjoyed the many visitors to her home at Oxbow Landing, the numerous family gatherings there, and her wonderful neighbors. She was happiest when she was outside enjoying the beautiful flowers, weeks spent on Lee Island with family and friends, extended times in spring, summer, and fall at Carolina Beach, and shopping trips to Wilmington.
Surviving are two daughters, Kay LaSure and husband, Jim and Jan Kirk and husband, Bruce, of Wilmington, NC; two grandsons, Michael Bostic and wife, Tina of Wilmington, NC, Stacey Kirk and wife, Carrie of Burgaw, NC; one granddaughter, Lindsey Landfried and husband, Jake of Carolina Beach, NC; three great-grandchildren, Niko and Lucas Bostic and Skyler Landfried; two brothers-in-law, Dr. Allen Powell of Deltaville, VA and David Bowen and wife, Rachel, of Greensboro, NC; and a very special cousin, Grace Seymour of Arbor, NC.
The family would like to express their thanks and sincere appreciation to the staffs of Davis Health Care and The Commons at Brightmore for their care and attention to our mother while a resident. Also, many thanks to special friend, Susan Guyton, for her help, loving care, and devotion to our mother and father over the past several years.
Visitation will be at 318 Oxbow Landing, Burgaw, NC from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Thursday, October 29, 2009. Graveside services will he held at 11:00 am, Friday, October 30, 2009, at Burgaw Cemetery. The Reverend Dr. Wayne Dyer will preside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Burgaw Baptist Church, P.O. Box 385, Burgaw, NC 28425 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
