Obituary

Evelyn Blanche Midkiff Fischer, 96, of Atkinson, North Carolina formerly of Alexandria, Virginia passed from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Saturday, May 3, 2014, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

She was born June 29, 1917 in Alexandria, Virginia to Cloyd Burton and Lillian Maude Falin Midkiff. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 75 years, Henry Thomas Fischer; daughters, Evelyn F. Downing, Susan "Sue" F. Phipps, Joyce "Joy" Fischer, Clara Fischer and Rita Elaine Fischer; son, Henry T. Fischer, Jr.; and grandson, Joe Downing.

Evelyn is survived by her son-in-law, Walter Phipps (Janet) of Atkinson; grandchildren, Vicki O'Bannion, Terry Downing, and David Downing all of Ohio, Mary Capps of Georgia and Paul Phipps of Atkinson; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and one great great great granddaughter; nieces and nephews, Marty Bufano, Margo Partlow, Nick Bufano all of Virginia, Betty Brock of NV and Peggy Fulton of CA. and many extended family and friends.

Evelyn and Henry met at the ages of 16 and 17 and married one year later, spending 75 blissful years together. Together they had six children, four of which died as infants or at young age. In spite of sadness in her life, Evelyn maintained a cheerful outlook on life, a steadfast Christian faith and a wonderful witty sense of humor. Having an amazing memory, Evelyn loved to tell stories about her life experiences. She loved her family with all her heart and that included her cat, "Kitty Andy." Evelyn leaves a wonderful legacy of love, faith and hope for each of us today.

Funeral service will be Noon on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Merrell McKoy and Pastor Don Yerby officiating. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home until hour of the service.

Funeral service will be Noon on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Pastor Merrell McKoy and Pastor Don Yerby officiating. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery.
