Evelyn Stallings McGowen

Mary Evelyn Stallings McGowen, age 86, of Wallace, North Carolina left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Monday, October 5, 2026.

She was born on June 27, 1940, in Duplin County; the daughter of the late Marshall William and Mary Ellen Murray Stallings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Neil McGowen, Jr. and sister Emma Gray Walker.

Surviving to cherish her memory is her son Edward Neil MaGowen Jr. and wife Amberly of Wallace; grandchildren Amberlyn, Weston and Maxden; special cousin and brother Joe Murray and wife Betty of Wallace; numerous extended family and friends that loved Evelyn dearly.

Evelyn was a loving mother and caring grandmother who loved her family with all her heart. She was a diligent homemaker and great cook as long as her health permitted. With a joyful spirit she filled her home with love and welcomed all who entered. Being a good neighbor and friend, Evelyn was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted bookkeeper for Williams Blanchard Surveying Company for many years. Most of all, her son Neil was her world, and her grandchildren were the apples of her eye. Evelyn will surely be missed but treasured memories of Evelyn will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, Wallace, NC with Pastor Chris Jarman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial gift be given to Wallace Christian Academy, 4121 S NC Hwy 11, Wallace, NC 28466.
