Everette Waylan Murray, age 82, of Wallace, fought the fight and kept the faith and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He departed this earthly life from his residence on Saturday evening, October 17, 2020.
He was born on April 5, 1938 in Duplin County and was one of five boys born to the late Henry Steve and Fannie Geneva Merritt Murray. Everett was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas Murray, Floyd Murray, Howard Murray, Sr. and Dulan Murray.
Everette proudly served his country in the US National Guard and later served his community as a police officer with Wallace Police Department. He also worked with Padgett Funeral Home and Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home for many years and later retired with Murray's Exterminating Service. Everette was a dedicated member of The Church of Pentecostal Gathering, the Woodmen of the World of Wallace and American Legion, Post 156 of Wallace.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his best friend, soulmate and wife of 62 years, Gerry Wheeler Murray of the home; his loving daughters, Vivian Murray Mote and husband, Keith of Willard and Gail Murray Ramsey and husband, Ray of Wallace; the apples of his eyes were his grandchildren, LeAnn Mote, Justin Ramsey and his wife, Jolene, Brandon Ramsey and Amanda Schambs and her husband, Brian. Everette was very proud to be the PaPa of 5 great grandchildren, Conner Beringer, Landen Beringer, Annsley Horne, K.C. Schambs and Katie Schambs. Surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends who will forever treasure the memories and cherish the love they shared with Everette throughout the years.
Everette was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather and brother. He found great joy in the simplest things, but his greatest joy was family. He lived his life based on Christian principles and instilled Christian values in his own children. Everette was dedicated to his community and was always willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. He enjoyed being outdoors especially mowing grass, going out to eat (as long as his health permitted) and spending time with his family. Everette loved people and was loved in returned. He never met a stranger. Everette will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his compassion for others, his love for family and friends and his steadfast faith in God. Everette will surely be missed but his family and friends are grateful for his life and for the comfort of knowing that he is now in Heaven and we will meet him again.
Graveside service will be held at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery with Everette's pastor, Reverend Rodney Bonham and Everette's nephew, Reverend Byron Murray officiating.
Casketbearers will be Conner Beringer, Brandon Ramsey, Justin Ramsey, Ray Ramsey, Lloyd Sullivan and Wayne Wheeler.
Due to the Covid-19 epidemic, we ask family and friends to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be given in memory of Everette Murray to his church, The Church of Pentecostal Gathering, PO Box 297, Wallace, NC 28466.
