Obituary

Evra Lewis Carter Faircloth, age 89, of Atkinson passed gently from her earthly life to her eternal rest on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 with her daughters at her side.

She was born November 11, 1921 in Burgaw, the daughter of the late Fletcher Tate and Gertrude George Lewis. Evra was preceded in death by her husband, William "Billy" Henry Carter in 1964 and her son, William "Bill' Lewis Carter. Later she married Franklin "Frank" Theodore Faircloth who died in 2007. Surviving Evra are her beloved family, daughters, Brenda Kay Carter of the home and Sandra Carter Webb of Wilmington; daughter-in-law, Vivian Risley Carter of Wilmington; grandchildren, William Scott Carter (Claudia) of Wilmington, Robert Tate Carter of Greensboro, John Alexander Webb IV (Karolina) of Gaithersburg, MD, William Jason Webb (Jackie) of Mechanicsburg, PA and April Lyn Mason (Billy W. Short) of Wilmington; great grandsons, Chase Ray Mason, John Carter Webb and Rice Liam Carter; and special friends, Russel and Ellen Faircloth.

Evra grew up in Burgaw and was proud of working in the Pender County Court House during WW II. After Billy returned from the war Evra and Billy moved to the Carter Home Place in Atkinson where they established the Carter Grocery, managed the Carter farm, raised their three children and attended Caswell Presbyterian Church where Evra was very active. After Evra and Frank married they raised and showed Quarter horses, enjoying traveling all over the United States, meeting and being with people in the horse world. Evra and Frank enjoyed being members of Moores Creek Baptist Church.

Evra was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was a gracious Southern lady always with a smile on her face and a kind word to greet you as she set a positive example for family and friends by the life she lived. She will be lovingly remembered for her witty sense of humor, joyful laughter and most of all for her faith in God and love of family. Evra always said her favorite place was home with family.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Moores Creek Baptist Church with The Rev. Philip Eakins officiating. Burial will follow in Bostic Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Scott Carter, Tate Carter, Alex Webb, Jason Webb, Chase Mason and Russel Faircloth.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.
