Fay Nell Ligon Bruton, Age 83 of Middle Sound in Wilmington, NC died January 27, 2022 at home.
Fay was born on August 18th 1938 in West Helena AR. The youngest child of the late William Fred Ligon and Mary Ellen Ramey Ligon.
She was raised in Ebenezer, AR a small cotton farming community. She attended Aubrey School where she graduated Valedictorian in 1955 and attended University of Arkansas where she graduated in 1959 with a BA & Marketing Degree. Fay was in the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She was a winner in several beauty pageants and a finalist in the 1957 Miss Arkansas Pageant.
After college, Fay moved to Atlanta, GA and worked at Davidsons Department Store as an Assistant Buyer and Model. She later got her teaching degree and was a beloved elementary school teacher in Marianna AR, as well as Tileston and Ogden Elementary schools in Wilmington, NC, where she touched many students' lives.
Fay traveled extensively with her husband, George Adrian Bruton, and took fun yearly trips with her Zeta Sisters. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dear and generous friend. Fay was intelligent, funny and beautiful inside and out. She will be dearly missed and cherished by many.
Fay is survived by her daughter, Gamble Anne Bruton Seaman (Roger) of Pittsburgh, PA; sons, George Allen Bruton (Heidi) of Wilmington, John McDowell Bruton (Joy Kannika) of Southport, and Alexander Chambers Bruton (Sabrina) of Swansboro; "adopted" son, Avery Bates of Wilmington; grandsons, George Scout Bruton, Hampton Allen Bruton, Ligon Bennett Bruton, Beckett Ford Bruton, John Asa Bruton, James Adrian Bruton and Ryker Drake Bruton.
In addition to her parents, Fay was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, George Adrian Bruton, who passed away a week before on January 20, 2022; brothers, William Fred Ligon and Sullivan A. Ligon; sister, Mary Aileen Ligon Boedeker; niece, Leah Tish Ligon; nephews, Mickey Ligon and Gerald Bruton; and grandson, Brady Allister Bruton.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 11am.
