Floyd Haywood Meadows, 80, of Hampstead died Monday, June 23, 2008, having fought a courageous battle against lung cancer. His family was never far from his side.

Haywood was born in Hampstead on November 23, 1927 to Fred and Cora Bell Hall Meadows. His daughter, Hattie Marie Meadows left us on June 10, 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen Taylor Meadows; his children, John Harvey Meadows, Harold Meadows, Hazel Shingleton, Mary Hester Best and her husband, Thomas; niece, Barbara Hobbs; grandchildren, Robert Meadows and wife, Tammy, Amy Gwirtz, Gary Shingleton, Jr., Sammie Best and J. T. Meadows; and great grandchildren, Kindale, Bailey and Raegan Meadows and Abigail Gwirtz.

He was a member of Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church and former member of Sloop Point Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He retired from Babcock Wilcox after twenty years of service. He served honorably in the US Army.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, at Blakes Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery., 88 Blakes Chapel Rd, Hampstead, NC with Pastor Edward Dowd officiating.

Casketbeaers will be Rex Sidbury, Dale Carter, Kevin Sanders, Cole Porter, Warren Spiller and Colin Batten.

Honorary bearers will be Jimmy Coleman, Jack Moore, Matthew Lewis, Robert Batson, George Shepard, Rodney Royal, Henry Hinnant, Joseph \\"Doobie\\" Shepard, Robert King and Leslie Lee.


The family would like to thank the staffs of 8th South at NHRMC and Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

The family will receive friends at the home of Robert and Tammy Meadows, 636 Sloop Point Road, Hampstead, NC.
