Frances Wells
Rogers
May 7, 2009
Frances Wells Rogers, age 98, of Burgaw and formerly of Newton's Crossroads died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Huntington Health Care of Burgaw.
She was born December 5, 1910 in Sampson County, the daughter of the late Stewart and Mattie Ramsey Wells. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Charles Rogers.
Mrs. Rogers was a faithful member of Wells Chapel Baptist Church.
Frances loved her family, especially her grandchildren. First, and foremost she was a devout Christian who shared her faith with others. She was an exceptional seamstress making many of her children's clothes. Mary remembers as a child being very sick and could not eat anything but chicken broth - Frances went out to the hen house, killed a chicken and made Mary chicken broth. That was the kind of person Frances was, always caring, sharing and thinking of others. Frances lived a long and fruitful life and will be fondly remembered.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dalton Wells of Watha; son, Billy Ray Rooks; step-children, Hilda R. Carter, Charles Rogers and Ethan Rogers; grandchildren, Andy Burchfield, Lisa George and Laura Martin; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Wells Chapel Baptist Church with The Rev. Benjamin Taylor officiating.
Burial will follow in Wells Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Harrells, NC.
Casketbearers will be Ed Thornton, Jr., Ernest Mintz, Dennis Carr, Percy Carter, Jim Moody, and Andy Burchfield.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the funeral service.
