Obituary

Francis Marion Harrell, 86, of Castle Hayne departed his earthly life on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with family by his bedside.

He was born July 26, 1926 in Waycross, GA, the son of the late John Lee and Gertrude Price Harrell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Vera H. Jones and her husband, P.L.

Francis is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Betty R. Harrell; son Shelton R. Harrell of Wilmington; daughter, Leann H. Craig of Burgaw; granddaughter, Shellie Harrell; great granddaughter, Haven Harrell; brother, John Lee Harrell, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; and a large extended family who dearly loved Betty and Francis.

Francis served his country honorably in the US Navy during WW II and was retired from PineState Dairy.

Having a great love for his family, Francis was a loving husband and caring daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend. He was a first class fisherman which he took full advantage of as long as his health permitted. Also, he enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and cheering his favorite drivers. Francis will be remembered for his quiet faith in the Lord, his gentle smile and his kindness to family and friends.

Graveside funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington with Rev. Debbie Murray officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Harrell residence in Castle Hayne.
