Frank Henderson Bowen, Sr., age 78, of Carolina Beach departed this life on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Hock Family Pavilion, a Duke Medical Center Hospice Care Center in Durham.

He was born September 13, 1933 on Stoney Run Farm in Pender County to A. Lee and Mary Alice Henderson Bowen. Frank was predeceased by his father when he was three weeks old, by his mother when he was nine years old; by his brothers, Alvin, Paul and Charles; and by his sisters, Nell, Gladys and Janie. Frank was reared by his sister, Gladys Bowen Thomas.

Frank is survived by his wife, Frances "Petey" Blossom Bowen; daughter, Beverly Frances Bowen; son, Frank H. "Hank" Bowen, Jr. (Tonia); grandchildren, Laura Alison Williams (Derek) and Jonathan Noah Williams; sister, Margaret Bowen Carver; nieces, Gladys Thomas Anderson and Mary Lee "Kitsy" Thomas Lackey; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Frank was a career employee of the NC Department of Transportation, served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed music, writing and woodworking.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel. Frank will be inurned in the Lee Bowen family plot in Burgaw Cemetery.
