Frank Dobinson Russ, Jr. of Atkinson, NC, died on May 17, 2026 at his mother's home in Watha.  Frank was born in Burgaw on October 2, 1954.  He is survived by his mother, Barbara Woodcock Russ Honeycutt, as well as numerous cousins and friends who were as close as family.  He was predeceased by his father, Frank D. Russ, Sr. and two infant brothers.

Frank knew early on that he was called to ministry. He was licensed to preach in 1974 by what is now the Atkinson Baptist Church and ordained to ministry by the Ivanhoe Baptist Church in 1976. He served as youth director of the Burgaw Baptist Church and attended Southeastern Seminary, where he earned a Master of Divinity in 1981.  As he continued to discern his calling, he pursued additional education and was awarded a Diploma in Anglican Studies.  He was ordained to the priesthood in the Episcopal Church in 1991.  Frank served churches in Southport, Clinton, and Goldsboro, as well as parishes in Virginia, New York, and South Carolina.

Frank loved to entertain.  Nothing made him happier than filling the little house on Point Caswell Road with friends and family and food. Many looked forward to his annual Christmas Open House.  He had the old packhouse on the property converted to a gathering place. He enjoyed the monthly suppers with his extended group of cousins and cherished that time with family.  He liked to travel and took trips to Georgia and Hawaii as long as he was able.  But his real home was North Carolina, and he was proud of the work he did to restore his Woodcock family's home. For many years, it was one of the homes featured in the Atkinson Christmas House Tour.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.at Caswell Presbyterian Church in Atkinson.  Ashes will be interred at Atkinson Cemetery following the service.
