Obituary

Frank Robert "Bob" Vanderslice departed this earth to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. Born on September 3, 1941, Bob grew up in Dover, Delaware, graduating from Caesar Rodney High School in 1959. After attaining his Associate Degree from Wesleyan College in Dover, Bob attended Lynchburg College in pursuit of his Bachelor and Master Degree in Education. While in Lynchburg, he met the love of his life, Susan. Married in 1970, they would spend the rest of their lives together, living in Virginia and North Carolina.

Bob's passions for teaching and helping others, especially children, were evident throughout his career. He held positions as a History Teacher and Coach at Selbyville High School in Selbyville, DE., as well as Guidance Counselor and Assistant Principal in the Hopewell, Va. school system.

Building on his educational background, Bob took a role and spent the majority of his career in the Civil Service, where he developed and became Lead Instructor of the Pre-Command Course in Fort Lee, Va. While at Fort Lee, Bob received the Superior Civilian Service Award, one of the highest civilian honors bestowed in service of country.

However, his heart yearned to return to teaching children and led him to Harrells. NC, where Bob became Headmaster at Harrells Christian Academy in 1989. After leaving his role as Headmaster, Bob continued to teach History until his retirement in 1995.

He had an incredibly positive impact on the lives of people whom he taught and he will be sorely missed. No one will miss him more than his family.

Preceded in death by his parents Frank and Florence, Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan (Burch) and their children and grandchildren: their eldest son, Jon, wife Heidi, and grandson, Benjamin; their son Jeff, wife Tracy, and grandchildren Ashley and Spencer; and their daughter, Abigail.

A family service in Virginia will be planned later this spring.
