Frank lived a life shaped by the sea, devoted service to his country, unwavering loyalty to his family, and a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around him.

Frank “Frankie” Elliott White Jr., 73, of Wilmington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at home on October 6, 2026, following complications from a longstanding illness.

Born on October 29, 1952, in Wilmington, to Mavis “Dell” Elizabeth White and Frank Elliott White Sr. of Wrightsville Beach, Frank lived a life shaped by the sea, devoted service to his country, unwavering loyalty to his family, and a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around him.

Growing up on Wrightsville Beach, Frank developed a lifelong love of the ocean and a deep connection to his coastal hometown. The water was more than a place to him; it was where he felt most at home. After graduating from New Hanover High School in 1972, Frank answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Coast Guard. What began as a commitment to service became a proud career, one that reflected his courage, dedication, and strength in the face of difficult circumstances. A true sailor at heart, Frank took pride in his service and always looked forward to returning home to the family he loved.

Life tested Frank at an early age when he lost his mother at just 14 years old. That experience helped shape the quiet strength, resilience, and dependability that would become hallmarks of his character. Throughout his life, he demonstrated his bravery not only through his military service but also in the way he stood beside others when life grew difficult. He was a man of integrity, a faithful soul, a steadfast friend, and a devoted family man whose loyalty spoke louder than words.

The water was more than a place to him; it was where he felt most at home.

Frank found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed fishing, exploring Civil War history, and spending time with his beloved pets. In retirement, he discovered a new pastime in metal detecting along the beaches he had cherished since childhood. He also served as a captain for Wrightsville Beach tours, a fitting role for someone whose heart belonged to the water and whose love for his hometown never faded. Whether navigating the waterways or sharing stories about the coast, Frank was happiest when he was doing what he loved.

Yet, of all the things that made Frank special, perhaps none was more memorable than his wonderful sense of humor. He had a gift for storytelling, a mischievous spirit, and a knack for making people laugh when they needed it most. Whether sharing a memorable tale, playing a good-natured prank, or offering a few words of encouragement, Frank had a way of making people feel welcome, comfortable, and appreciated. His laughter was infectious, his stories unforgettable, and his presence a gift to those fortunate enough to know him. He brought a little more lightness to difficult days and a little more joy to ordinary ones.

Above all, Frank treasured the people in his life. No matter where his service took him or what challenges he faced, home and family remained at the center of his world. His love was shown through his loyalty, his willingness to stand by those he cared about, and the countless memories he created along the way. Though his passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of those who loved him, the strength of his character, the warmth of his spirit, and the stories he leaves behind will continue to live on.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Mavis “Dell” Elizabeth White and Frank Elliott White Sr.

Frank’s life was like a voyage across the open sea—marked by courage, guided by faith, anchored by family, and filled with stories worth telling. He answered the call to serve, found peace on the water, stood strong through life’s storms, and left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and steadfast friendship. Though his final voyage has begun, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him and in the waters of the hometown he cherished.

Fair winds and following seas, Frankie.

May you find peace in the waters beyond the horizon, held in God’s everlasting love. May the tides carry you gently, the winds guide you home, and the memories you leave behind continue to bring smiles and comfort to all who knew you.

You were loved more than words can say, and you will never be forgotten.
