Obituary

But first, CHEE CHONG!!!

Franklin Delano Griffin, 88, of Wilmington, passed from his earthly life Saturday, July 9, 2022, after living a long and full life. He was born May 7, 1934, in Honolulu, NC, the only son of the late William A. and Grace Witherington Griffin. He was also preceded by his wife of 50 years, Madline Hall Griffin; oldest sister, Dot Atkinson and two sisters-in-law, Vernell Jones and Julia Wells.

Frank is survived by his son, William Keith Griffin and wife, Suzanne Trask Griffin; granddaughters, Grace Everett Griffin North (Carl), and Hennrietta Wooten Griffin; sisters, Sarah Harvell, Elenore King, Kay Keenan, Barbra Bradshaw (Glen), Jo Wilson, and Martha Cabral; sister-in-law, Hattie Teachey (Larry); and brother-in-law, Needham Hall (Sylvia); as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Frank was a member of the engineer's core during his time with the US Army in occupied Korea. He was a member of  Grifton Lodge No. 243 A.F. & A.M., as well as a member of the Sudan Shriners. He held many positions in Grifton Presbyterian Church and was always adamant about supporting children's causes.

Reared on a farm in the newly developed Penderlea, he assisted in building Potts Presbyterian Church by being an official nail straightener. After his time in the service, he took a pipe fitters position at the new Dupont plant in Kinston, rising to a supervisory position in works engineering. Frank and Madline reared Keith in Grifton and Topsail Beach until the early 80's when they moved back to Pender County, to Hampstead, founding Precision Plumbing, in 1984. He enjoyed working with numerous builders on various projects and keeping everyone current of the latest jokes. Always known for his humor, he was as welcome in the job office as on the job site.

Having been a semi-pro baseball player in his younger days, he became a pretty decent golfer, even though he stood on the wrong side of the ball. An avid hunter and fisherman, he took time to take his family to Colorado to ski whenever he could.

Later, White Stocking Hunting Club and his granddaughters took up most of his time. After his move from Hampstead to Scotts Hill, he switched his coffee club membership from Value Mart to Scotts Hill Marina where much world diplomacy was decided.

In his last years he tried to understand the world through the minds of Hennrie and Grace. He will be deeply missed.

Many thanks go to Dr. J. Todd Kornegay for years of unwavering care and to the doctors and staff at Novant Health Emergency Department at Scotts Hill.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Potts Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4085 NC Hwy 11, Willard, NC 28478. The Rev. Dr. Bill Goodnight will conduct the service.

The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the memorial service.
