Fred Allen Murray, 64, of Burgaw completed his earthly life's journey on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with family by his bedside.

He was born February 20, 1948 in Pender County, the son of Beaula Johnson Murray of Burgaw and the late Reuben Taylor Murray.

In addition to his beloved mother, Fred is survived by his brothers, Stanley Murray (Diane) and Reuben C. Murray (Debbie), all of Burgaw; sister, Denise Brown (Gary) of Beulaville; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Fred was a member of Penderlea Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Fred was a kind, thoughtful and gentle soul who loved his family and thought the world of his friends. Fred enjoyed cooking, especially baking cakes of which many he shared. He loved gatherings of family and friends for food and fellowship. Fred, always with a smile to share, never met a stranger and loved nothing better than a chat on the phone. Regardless of the circumstances in Fred's life he leaned on the Christian faith his mother instilled in him. Fond memories of Fred will remain in our hearts.

Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Dean Walker and the Rev. Debbie Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be Ben Chestnutt, Shea Coker, Chris Herring, Eric Simpson, Wayne Rivenbark and Glenn Rivenbark.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home until hour of the service. At other times the family will be at the home of Reuben and Debbie Murray.
