Frederick Jackson "Jackie"
Sparkman
Apr 28, 1932 — Oct 7, 2012
Frederick Jackson "Jackie" Sparkman, age 80, of Rocky Point passed peacefully to his eternal rest after a full, loving and rewarding life on this earth.
He was born April 28, 1932 in Pender County, the son of the late Miles Frederick and Bennie Sidbury Sparkman. Also lovingly remembered is his sister, Mary Nixon Beaverson who preceded Jackie in death.
Jackie is survived by his wife of 16 years, Emmie S. Sparkman; children, Elizabeth Guion, Charles Sloan and Rachel Sloan all of Rocky Point; grandchildren, Christopher Guion, Matthew Sloan, Johnathan Guion, Keira Sloan, and Connor Guion; sister, Tilden Rabalais (Doug) of Rocky Point; nieces, Terry Lanning (Dean), Cindy Barber (Smitty), Rhonda Moore (Thomas) and Heather Owens (Harry); and nephews, Freddie Beaverson (Regina) and Matthew Rabalais.
Jackie served his country honorably in the US Navy and the US Coast Guard.
Jackie is fondly remembered as owner and operator of Ten Mile Texaco at Porter's Neck for 25 years and the Country Store in Rocky Point for 20 years. Everyone in the area knew Jackie and enjoyed his company.
Jackie was a true animal lover as he had a pet goat named Cinnamon, turkeys, pheasants, quail, rabbits, and chickens which he hatched from his chicken eggs. Most important in his life was his family who he dearly loved. Jackie came across as a tough man, but underneath he had a heart of gold. His witty sense of humor, ability to tell a story, and zest for life will always be cherished and remembered.
