Gail Barnhill Dixon, 78, of Rose Hill left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Monday, January 15, 2024, from her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on May 12, 1945, in Wilmington, NC, to the late Roy and Beatie Wilson Barnhill. Mrs. Dixon was also preceded in death by her grandson, Andrew Dixon Murray, and her siblings, Emma Joyce Colvin, Lucille Spencer, LeRoy Barnhill, Helen Ragsdale, Robert Barnhill, and Elbert Ray Barnhill.
Mrs. Dixon was a faithful member of Bethel Wesleyan Church of Rose Hill.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her best friend and loving husband of sixty-two years, Jimmy Dixon; her loving daughters, Wanda Darden and husband Anthony and Wendy Murray and husband Frank, all of Rose Hill; granddaughters, MaryKate King and husband Garrick of Sanford and Ginny Hope and husband Nelson of Rose Hill; greatgrandchildren JimiPaige Hope and Remington Hope; siblings, Ann Holt of Rocky Point, Ida Mae Keith of Wilmington, Geraldine Swarts-Smith of Wilmington, Elgin Barnhill and wife Nell of Chinquapin and Johnny Barnhill of Rocky Point; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Gail dearly.
Gail was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and sister. She enjoyed the simple things in life, but her greatest joy was family. Being a woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace, Gail was "an instrument of God's love on this earth." She always put others before herself and was a friend to all. With such a kind and compassionate spirit, she was surely a true gift from God. Gail will surely be missed but will never be forgotten.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Bethel Wesleyan Church with the Reverend Buck Garrison, Pastor Greg Dabb and Gail's son-in law, Frank Murray, Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Watha, NC.
Casketbearers will be Nelson Hope, Garrick King, Scott Holt, Michael Keith, Curtis Keith and Jeff Hargrove.
Honorary casketbearers will be Joey Williams II, Brandon Chestnutt, Frankie Colvin, Tony Cavenaugh, Jacob E. Barnhill, Charles Swarts, Brian Swarts, Jeff Barnhill, Lee Barnhill, Kyle Darden, Ricky Hope, Johnny Barnhill, Neal Spencer and Kevin Barnhill.
