Garry Lee Strayer, age 53, of Burgaw left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Sunday, January 23, 2011 from Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center.

He was born October 24, 1957 in New Hanover County and was the son of the late William Strayer and Hilda Lee Leary Strayer Boudreaux. He was predeceased by his brothers, Bill Strayer and Johnnie Strayer.

Garry worked for Mundy Construction Company at General Electric for over 16 years. He was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wilmington.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Patricia "Trish" Faircloth Strayer of the home; daughters, Amanda Strayer of Leland, Fonda Stavey of Long, SC, and Priscilla Soles of Leland; twin brother, Terry Lee Strayer of Reserve, LA; brothers-in-law, Anthony Sellers (Barbara) and Wayne Faircloth (Linda); sister-in-law, Pearl Norton; ten grandchildren; special friends, Cathy and Ronnie Lewis of Leland, Reverend Tom and Arelene Male, Amy and Steve Suek and Brenda Biggs, all of Wilmington; many friends at G.E. and his church family whom he loved dearly.

Garry was a devoted husband and caring father, grandfather and brother who dedicated his life to his wife and family. He was a strong, courageous and yet gentle man who brought out the good in all those who were near and dear to him. For those who knew Garry, loved Garry; and he was loved in return. He was a true friend to many, especially to those he worked with and his church family. He enjoyed working in his yard, planting flowers and watching them grow, as long as his health permitted. Garry will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, love for family and friends and his steadfast faith in God.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Wilmington with the Reverend Tom Male officiating.

The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Burgaw.

Patricia extends special thanks and love to her brother, Wayne; sister-in-law, Linda; sisters, Barbara and Sissie; nieces and nephews and all friends for all their support and compassion shown to Garry and her during his illness.
