Obituary

Gene Cavenaugh, age 77, of Teachey left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Thursday, September 13, 2018 from Vidant Inpatient Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

He was born on December 25, 1940 in Duplin County and was the son of the late Hermon and Nettie Batts Cavenaugh. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Doris Brown, Derald Cavenaugh and Pat Guy.

Gene was manager for A & P Grocery Store in Wallace for many many years.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his son, Jeffery Cavenaugh and wife Meta of Teachey; granddaughter, Mandy Rivenbark and husband, Dave of Wallace; great grandchildren, Hunter Tucker, Karlee Rivenbark, Davis Rivenbark and Stone Rivenbark; sister, Myrtle Norris; special nephew, Jonas Brown; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that loved Gene dearly.

Gene was a great father and caring grandfather and brother. He enjoyed the simplest things in life but his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. Being a hard worker, Gene was a great provider for his family and saw that they lacked nothing. Gene was an outdoors man who loved to hunt. He was also an avid fan of the Washington Nationals baseball team. But his favorite baseball team was the one that his great grandson, Hunter was playing on. Gene enjoyed watching Hunter play baseball so much; he never missed his games. With a witty personality and a heart of gold, Gene was a pleasure to be around. He was an honest man and would give you the shirt off his back. Gene will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Cavenaugh Cemetery, NC Hwy 41, Wallace, NC.

Casketbearers will be Jonas Brown, Buddy King, Bill Norris, Bret Mosback, Dave Rivenbark and Hunter Tucker.
