Obituary

Gene Horace Cavenaugh, 77, of Wallace left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, February 12, 2014.

He was born on June 26, 1936 in Pender County, the son of the late Walter and Pearl Batts Cavenaugh. He was also predeceased by his brother, Guy Cavenaugh.

Mr. Cavenaugh was a member of The Church at Pin Hook.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 17 years, Shirley Fueller Cavenaugh; his loving children, Mitchell Gene Cavenaugh of Wallace, Michelle Bradshaw and husband, Raymond of Rose Hill and Glenn Cavenaugh and wife, Janice of Wallace; grandchildren, Crystal Robinson and husband, Bruce, Jacob Bradshaw and wife, Nicole, Bradley Cavenaugh and wife, Gula, Kayla Cavenaugh, Brian Cavenaugh and Corey Cavenaugh; great grandchildren. Regan and Madison Cummings, Sydney Robinson, Jacob Bradshaw, Jr., Josiah Bradshaw, Jaylan Cavenaugh and Rowland Cavenaugh; special great grandsons, Seth Bradshaw and Jeffery Phillips; brother, Leamon Cavenaugh and wife, Mildred of Wallace; sister, Carolyn Cavenaugh of Wallace; step-children, Amanda Blue of Clinton, Sheila Stoltz of Plant City, FL and Wesley Bradshaw of Erwin; 8 step-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Gene was a devoted husband and caring father, grandfather and brother. He enjoyed the simplest things in life but his greatest joy was his family. He was a man tall in stature but gentle in nature. He was kind to everyone and would never do anything to hurt anyone. With a green thumb, Gene enjoyed flowers in his yard and growing vegetable gardens, especially collards. He was kind hearted and he loved to help others. Gene not only loved his own children, but he also loved and helped raise other children. He also loved his church and enjoyed attending as his health permitted. Gene will surely be missed but treasured memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
