Gene Albert Strickland, 62, of Willard left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born on June 11, 1959, in Pender County and was the son of the late Albert and Dorothy Piner Strickland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anita Strickland and his brother, Albert Mack Strickland.

Gene was a member of the Church of Pentecostal Gathering.

Surviving is his daughter, Amber Dixon and husband Marcus of Magnolia; grandson Paxton Dixon; granddaighter Hannah Grace Dixon; sister Debbie Ridgeway and husband Scott of Charleston, SC; his canine companions, "Tiny" and "Myra" and numerous extended family and friends that loved Gene dearly.

Gene was a simple man who loved his family dearly.  He enjoyed the simple things of life, and he lived his life just that way.  Being an avid carpenter, Gene took great pride in of his work.  There were not many things in the carpentry work or building that Gene could not do.  He was very talented and always willing to lend a helping hand to others.  Gene enjoyed hot rod and classic cars, especially Chevelles.  Most of all, Gene loved the Lord and gave his life to him while on this earth.  Now he is enjoying being in the presence of God.  He will be missed but those who knew Gene will never forget him.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Church of Pentecostal Gathering with Pastor Rodney Bonham officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Burial will follow in Strickland Family Cemetery, Willard.
