Geneva Blankenship LaFon, 77, passed away April 22, 2015, at home after an extended illness. She was born August 15, 1937, in Pikeville, Kentucky. She moved to Wilmington in 1968. She had worked for years as a CCT and CNA at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was a self-taught artist and took classes later in life just for the enjoyment of learning. She was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and always put her family first.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Rush LaFon; her sons Artie LaFon (wife Beth) Darren LaFon (wife Tracy), a stepdaughter, Vickie Aflleje. Grandchildren Chuck Willetts, Morgan Phaneuf, Laurie Lonergan, Dallas LaFon, Sara Milligan, and Austin LaFon. She also has nine great grandchildren. Her parents Arthur and Kate Blankenship and sister Florence Childers preceded her in death.
Memorial service will be 3PM, Saturday, May 2nd at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington just off Oleander Drive. In honoring her wishes, casual dress is appropriate and accepted attire.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Hospice, the Zimmer Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
