Obituary

George Adrian Bruton, age 88, of Middle Sound in Wilmington, NC passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at home. Sadly, George's wife and love of his life, Fay Bruton, passed away a week later on Thursday, January 27, 2022.

George was born on April 4th, 1933 in Biscoe, NC. The first son of the late George Allen Bruton and Zula Mae Gillis Bruton.

George was raised in the small railroad town of Warsaw, NC. The family moved to Wilmington where George attended Tileston Elementary, graduated from New Hanover High School in 1951, graduated Wilmington College in 1957 and attended North Carolina State University.

While working at the Atlantic Coast Line Headquarters in Wilmington, George was drafted in the US Army during the Korean War and was assigned to the 7th Signal Company in Korea. He was an Executive with Siemens.

George was an extensive world traveler. He took many luxurious trips with his wife, Fay, and many adventurous trips on other occasions. George was an avid gardener, golfer and storyteller with a charismatic voice that could hold court for hours. He was refined, intelligent, handsome, private and funny. George was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed and cherished by all that knew him.

George is survived by his daughter, Gamble Anne Bruton Seaman (Roger) of Pittsburgh, PA; sons, George Allen Bruton (Heidi) of Wilmington, John McDowell Bruton (Joy Kannika) of Southport, and Alexander Chambers Bruton (Sabrina) of Swansboro; "adopted" son, Avery Bates of Wilmington; sisters, Jo Anne Page of West Jefferson, Linda Weaver of West Jefferson, and Pamela Hall (Charles) of Ivanhoe; brothers, Cary G. Bruton (Fran) of Hampstead, James M. Bruton of Clemmons, and Charles S Bruton (Mary) of Oakridge; grandsons, George Scout Bruton, Hampton Allen Bruton, Ligon Bennett Bruton, Beckett Ford Bruton, John Asa Bruton, James Adrian Bruton, and Ryker Drake Bruton.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Kay Bruton Long; grandson, Brady Allister Bruton; niece, Leah Tish Ligon; and nephews, Mickey Ligon and Gerald Bruton.

A Memorial Service will be held at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home in Wilmington on Saturday, May 7 at 11am.
