George Edwin Paylor Jr., age 79, of Wilmington passed away Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, 2016 at his home.

He was born July 25, 1937 in Roxboro, North Carolina the son of the late George E. Paylor Sr. and Elizabeth Foushee Paylor. He is also preceded in death by his son, G. West Paylor.

George was a member of Temple Baptist Church, a member of Cape Fear Community College Foundation; and the North Carolina Retired Government Employees Association. He graduated from East Carolina University in Industrial Arts and Occupational Education and followed his education with a 36year career in the New Hanover County Public Schools and Cape Fear Community College. He also taught drivers education, built numerous furniture pieces in his home and was an avid hunter and fisher. George was a mentor to many young people over the years in the art of wood working, hunting and gun safety.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 50 years, Margery Burke Paylor; and a niece, Margaret Burke.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, January 5, 2016 at Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel with Dr. Mark Gaskins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Cape Fear Community College Foundation, Temple Baptist Church or the charity of one's choice.
