George Marvin Robinson, age 79, of Burgaw died Monday, November 26, 2007 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 2, 1928 in Onslow County and was the son of the late George Louie and Julia Ann Fonville Robinson.
Mr. Robinson served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and continued his love of country and patriotic duty by being a member of W. Dudley Robbins Post 165.
He was a longtime faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon and in many other capacities.
Marvin was a retired Pender County farmer and was owner and operator of Southwest Strawberry Farm in Jacksonville for many years. Marvin twice received the Farmer of the Year Award and he and Launa also received the Southeastern District Farm Family Award. He was appointed by Gov. Hunt to serve on the Pender County Soil and Water Conservation Board where he served for forty-six years part of this time as District Supervisor. For thirteen years he served on the Board of Directors for the Federal Land Bank.
Marvin's greatest enjoyment and passion in life was his love of music. Many years ago he organized the Stoney Run Blue Grass Band which is noted in this part of the state for their blue grass, country and classical music.
Surviving are his devoted wife of fifty-seven years, Launa Rivenbark Robinson of the home; sister and brother-in-law, Marlene R. and Robert Blake of Burgaw; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Mark Rogers and Dr. Clarence Dodgens officiating.
Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
Casketbearers will be Dale Sutton, Brian Zygmunt, George Hubbard, Billy Carter, David Neely and Rick Rommell.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Quinn-McGowen funeral Home, Burgaw.
