Obituary

George "Buddy" Spearman, Jr., age 81, of Wallace left his earthly life for his eternal rest on Monday, April 16, 2012 from New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born on September 1, 1930 in Bladen County, and was the son of the late George Spearman and Lola Horrell Spearman Brinkley. He was also predeceased by his son, Andy Spearman; two grandchildren, his brother, Harvey L. Spearman and sister, Mable S. Brown.

Mr. Spearman served his country honorably in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He attended the Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Mary Jones Spearman; his daughters, Linda Moore Swinson and husband, Paul of Maple Hill and Maria S. Likens and husband, Harold of Teachey; his son, David Spearman and wife, Vanessa of Teachey; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brother, James T. Spearman and wife, Nellie of Teachey; sister, Nancy B. Brice and husband, Phil of Castle Hayne and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

"Buddy" as his family affectionately called him, was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather who dedicated his life to his wife and family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of his eye and he enjoyed spoiling them as often as he could. Being a simple man with a kind heart and a great sense of humor, Buddy was loved and respected by all who knew him. He drove an LP tanker for Worsley Oil Company and then later worked at J.P. Stevens for many,many years. After retirement he returned to his great love of truck driving. Buddy's family is grateful to God for his life and they consider themselves very blessed to have had such a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Casketbearers will be Joey Carr, Brett Likens, Braxton Spearman, David Spearman, Tommy Spearman and Wade Wainwright.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Wallace.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 20, 2012 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel.

Burial will follow with military honors at Riverview Memorial Park in Watha.
