Gerald Arthur Barney, 69, of Rocky Point, NC and formerly of Bristol, CT died at his home on Sunday, September 15, 2013. He was the husband of Joan Barney.
Born August 2, 1944 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Alcibeth "Betty" Barney of Litchfield and the late Everett Barney. He was preceded in death by his first wife Claudia Barney, the mother of his three sons: Gerald Barney and wife, Lisa of Torrington, Steven Barney and wife, Cheryl also of Torrington and David Barney and wife, Julie of Tolland, MA. He is survived by his brother, Bryan Barney and his wife, Carol of Holiday, FL and sister, Diane Easter and her husband, George of Litchfield. He also leaves three step-children, Julie Marsele Cusson of Ft. Myers, FL, Joshua Marsele of Bristol and Hayley Varhol of Cheltenham, PA. He will be missed by eight grandchildren.
After working 30 years with IBM, Gerald continued his expertise with computers by starting his own company, Advanced Computer Solutions (ACS) before finally retiring in 2004.
Gerald was quiet by nature, but loving as a husband, daddy, granddaddy, and brother. Being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and in years past, playing golf. Gerald enjoyed nothing better than a good baseball game and UCONN Basketball with his beloved dog, Missy, by his side.
A memorial service and burial will be held in the chapel of Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut St., Torrington, CT on Wednesday, September 25, at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Pender County Humane Society, PO Box 626, Burgaw, NC 28425, where he adopted Missy, the beloved Dachshund who was his constant companion.
